Toki Sadayoshi (土岐定義)

Sadayoshi TOKI (1580 - February 22, 1619) was a busho (Japanese military commander) and a daimyo (Japanese territorial lord) from the Azuchi-Momoyama to the early Edo periods. A retainer of the Tokugawa clan. The first head of the Toki family in the Numata Domain.

The second son of Sadamasa TOKI. His mother was the daughter of Mototada TORII. His lawful wife was the daughter of Yorimizu SUWA. His children were Yoriyuki TOKI (the oldest son), Toshisada TAKIGAWA (the second son), Yoritoyo TOKI (土岐頼豊, the third son), Yorichika TOKI (the fourth son), Yorihisa TOKI (the fifth son) and the daughter (the lawful wife of Sukenari MAKINO [牧野尹成]). His official rank was Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade), Yamashiro no kuni no kami (Governor of Yamashiro Province).

As his oldest brother died young, he took over as the head of the family after his father Sadamasa died in 1597. He was granted a 10,000 koku fief of the Moriya Domain, Shimosa Province. Serving Hidetada TOKUGAWA, in the Battle of Sekigahara, he followed the Hidetada's army and joined the attack on Ueda-jo Castle in the Shinano Province kept by Masayuki SANADA.

When Yoshinobu SATAKE (Ukyo no daibu [mayor of the right capital district]) in the Hitachi Province, was transferred to Akita with reduced revenues in 1602, he worked to secure Mito-jo Castle. In Osaka no Eki (The Siege of Osaka) from 1614, he engaged in the battles during winter, but he was appointed to the keeper of Edo-jo Castle during summer. In 1617, he was transferred to the Takatsuki Domain, Settsu Province, with an increased 20,000 koku and he died on February 22, 1619 at age 40. After his death, his oldest son, Yoriyuki, took over as the head of the family.

His tomb is located in Reisho-ji Temple in Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture.
